Hanging type load-carrying conveyors consist of an endless traction element, suspension arrangements, and suspended carriers. The hangers move along a high rail forming a closed curve. The rail, suspended from the building’s structural elements, is also supported from the ground at suitable locations. The traction element (a special chain of two inclined or two flat types, sometimes a steel wire rope) can bend in two planes, enabling the conveyor to move up and down and navigate corners. Thus, the conveyor can have turntables in two planes and be omnidirectional. The traction element receives its motion from the drive. In the horizontal plane, the traction element moves over turning rollers or sprockets and in the vertical plane, it passes over guided curved rails.
Carriers are loaded and unloaded along the route.
